We Had Visitors, and the Week Ahead

Updated: Jan 14, 2021

Two of the #FalconFootballFamily's best made an appearance this week. And the tentative schedule for the next two weeks.

Matthew Killam - Class of 2020

One of our very own #FalconFootballFamily alumni made his first start at University of Nevada - Reno, and his national television debut. Congratulations Matthew Killam (true freshman), Scripps Ranch High School, Class of 2020 graduate and last years City League - Special Teams Player of the Year and 1st Team - All League selection.

Here is the special teams grade from a local paper in Reno.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A
Punter Julian Diaz, who also handles kickoff duties, did not dress for the game. But Matt Freem, a junior transfer from Saddleback College, handled the punting and freshman Matthew Killam kicked off eight times and both performed well. Four of Killam’s kickoffs were touchbacks and Freem averaged 43.7 yards on three punts. Kicker Brandon Talton stayed perfect, making both of his field goals and all four of his extra points...

Matt was on the San Diego Union-Tribune All Academic Team for his success (four year cum GPA 4.15) in the classroom at Scripps . He has continued his SCHOOL FIRST approach in college maintaining all A's and B's in his first semester of online classes. Congrats again Matty. You continue to make us all proud.

Mekhi Shaw - Class of 2020

Another 2020 grad stopped by our practice and shared great information about his experience on the San Diego State University Aztec football team. Mekhi Shaw came out and talked to the team about school, the competitive climate and pace of Division I football. He also shared what it takes to get there.

eAs one of Scripps Ranch High School's all-time best and last years City League Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-League and also a UT - All Academic Team, Mekhi is already making a great impression at SDSU. His incredible athletic ability has not gone unnoticed on both sides of the ball, which is rare for a true freshmen. The future is bright for Mekhi, especially in the classroom.

Both recent grads get to play football. But they are working on their future with or without football, just like we work on at the high school level. Great job Matt and Mekhi.

We will do our best to keep in touch with all of our #FalconFootballFamily alumni.

The Schedule (Nov 9th - 28th)

Monday Canceled

Monday's field practice is canceled. We will get an update from the City of San Diego about field use this week. It is raining as I type this, so it could be a couple of days.

Spring Football in November

We will be switching to a modified Spring Football in November. Unfortunately, the unofficial return to our football field is tentatively scheduled for November 16th. However, we are not certain what the possible return to the Purple Tier for Covid-19 cases will do to that plan. If we can return, we will be using the field as a rental, under our AAU Club SR Football.

Thanksgiving Break

During Thanksgiving Week we will have optional workouts available for the team. Pending the start of Spring Football in November, we will return from Thanksgiving Break with an additional one to two weeks, leading right into the tentative start of football on December 14th.

Speaking of rentals. I will provide a fundraising update tomorrow. We are woefully short on our strength and conditioning direct donation drive. Your help is needed.

Thanks All
