No matter what the outcome is tonight or any other game night, I am proud to announce that our #1 goal has been achieved. It is by far the most important goal in our program because football doesn't last forever. Our team GPA is...
Up from 2.97 in 2016, 3.24 in 2017 and 3.59 last year. It means the world to us for several reasons. #1 - 3.6 is the magic number to start receiving academic scholarships at some of the best smaller schools around the country. It also represents what our boys are capable of collectively when we raise the bar.
We don't coach football for wins or championships. Those come when we convince the boys that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to if they are willing to work for it. If they are committed. If they are persistent. If they are accountable. And our boys have been all of the above. As a result we've reached a goal that isn't just a number, it is now our culture. A culture of excellence on and off the field and a new bar for future teams to climb over.
I want to thank all of you for putting up with hours. Dealing with the risks associated with football. But as a father I know how important it is to show our kids what they are capable of AND THEY DID IT!
It was emotional for me because these are lessons I want my sons to learn. The fact that I get to share them with 90+ kids who know that I love them and want the absolute best for their lives got to me. Because I really do want the best for each and every one of them.
If you don't remember anything else, please know football isn't about football. Sure they get to have fun, create new friends that will last a lifetime and hangout endlessly. Yes, winning is fun. And they are taking care of that too. But football at Scripps Ranch High School is now about excellence. And we achieved a little piece of that as a team and as a family. The Falcon Football Family.
