All three teams have cleared out their football lockers. We have a case of Hand-Foot and Mouth on the team. All players have been instructed to take everything home to be cleaned and all gear disinfected. Sorry for the late notice, but we want to do everything we can to keep it from spreading.
OVERVIEW OF HAND-FEET AND MOUTH
Overview. Hand-foot-and-mouth disease — a mild, contagious viral infection common in young children — is characterized by sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is most commonly caused by a coxsackievirus. There's no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease.
How It Spreads
By skin-to-skin contact (handshakes or hugs)
By airborne respiratory droplets (coughs or sneezes)
By saliva (kissing or shared drinks)
The virus usually clears up on its own within 10 days. Pain medications help relieve symptoms.
